Philippine TV Network ABS-CBN filed a lawsuit before the US Federal District Court against KissAsian.com (a streaming site of Asian shows) for damages of over $8 million on infringement of trademarks and registered copyrights of 27 television shows and movies. Some of the infringed ABS-CBN television shows that ranks in KissAsian's Top List are: On the Wings of Love, Be My Lady, Dolce Amore, We Will Survive, The Story of Us, Born for You, Till I Met You, and The Greatest Love. And, this is certainly the reason why it caught the attention of ABS-CBN and lead the network to made an action which is to file a lawsuit.
For K-Drama fans especially like me, this is a sad news because fans also watch to different streaming sites especially in KissAsian because the official K-Drama streaming sites like Viki or Dramafever implements country restrictions or requires paid subscription on some shows. But I do have a paid subscription, not to Viki or Dramafever but to Iflix because its cheaper and I can watch some K-Drama decently.
In my own opinion, ABS-CBN must take an action first on the file hosting sites embedded on KissAsian. Because it stated at KissAsian's Legal Disclaimer that "By clicking on any Links to videos while surfing on KissAsian you watch content hosted on third parties and KissAsian cant take the responsibility for any content hosted on other sites." On the otherhand, ABS-CBN may also message KissAsian about the infringement. As I read the DMCA of KissAsian.com, the company reporting copyright infringement must do several steps to takedown infringed properties which also includes messaging the designated agent-the KissAsian so that KissAsian will have time to takedown these infringed properties.
Moreover, ABS-CBN must find streaming sites that rebroadcast their shows a benefit, not in terms of money but in terms of popularity. Look, Korean Dramas are still alive on different streaming sites, thus, their actors and actresses becomes popular worldwide.
